Factory fitted Thatcham Immobiliser

Nearly all new UK spec cars and vans will have a factory fitted Thatcham immobiliser fitted as standard, using a wireless signal and some cleaver electronics built into the key or fob. Insurance approved aftermarket devices are available for older or imported vehicles

Aftermarket Thatcham Immobiliser

There are 2 main types of aftermarket immobilisers; wireless transponder or contact touchkey

Wireless Transponder - very similar to a factory fitted device, an extra keyfob sends a signal to allow the car to be started

Contact Touchkey - uses a keyfob with electrical contacts that you must insert into the dashboard for a few seconds before starting the engine.
